Update: As of 6:05 p.m., the Ocala Police Department says State Road 200 is now open

Ocala police officials are asking motorists to stay away from a portion of State Road 200 due to a broken gas line that needs repair.

Authorities said a construction crew working in the area hit a gas line. Ocala Fire Rescue officials said a 4-inch commercial line was hit.

The incident has caused major delays on the roadway, prompting officers to close a portion of the usually busy roadway. Officers said the affected area is from the 3200 block to the 3600 block of SR 200.

Rescue officials said customers at two nearby businesses were evacuated for safety reasons. Law officers said a few restaurants have decided to close due to the line break. Police anticipate traffic along SR 200 to remain closed for a few more hours.

The call came in around 3:45 p.m., law enforcement officials said.
