Firefighters called to Chester village after crash causes gas leak

Sep 03, 2023

FIREFIGHTERS and gas engineers were required at a Chester village this afternoon (Tuesday, May 16) after a crash resulted in a gas leak.

Two fire engines from Chester arrived at Oaklands in Guilden Sutton at around 3.06pm after a collision between a single vehicle and a gas pipe required firefighters to isolate the pipe.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "A road traffic collision involving one car was attended by firefighters who were required to isolate a gas pipe.

"Cadent Gas were called to deal with the leak and for safety an inner cordon was set up around the area."

Crews have set up hose reels as a precaution and are standing by, monitoring the gas.

Residents from a small number of nearby properties have been asked to vacate their homes as a precaution, while the incident is being dealt with.

Cheshire Police have confirmed that no injuries were reported and that engineers are at the scene repairing the damage.
