WAUKESHA — No one was injured in a house fire on Sunday afternoon in the 800 block of Rock Street.

The Waukesha Fire Department and Waukesha Police Department were dispatched after initial callers reported smoke and flames coming from the outside of a single-family house, according to a Waukesha Fire Department news release.

Fire crews found a resident trying to contain the fire with a garden hose. The crews quickly began extinguishing the flames, preventing them from spreading, while additional personnel safely escorted a resident who was still inside to safety.

“The exact cause of the fire is still being investigated but initial findings have determined that the fire started on the exterior of the house near the area that the resident had possessions stored. No injuries of any residents or firefighters occurred during fire department operations, and a damage estimate is not available,” the release said.

All residents were able to go back to the residence.

“The City of Waukesha Fire Department would like to remind all members of our community that improperly discarded smoking materials can easily ignite fires that threaten lives and property. Battalion Chief Fleming stated, ‘Please keep our community safe, always extinguish smoking materials completely and dispose of them in a sturdy, non-combustible container,’” the release said.

The fire department thanked the Waukesha Police Department and WE Energies for their assistance in helping the residents begin the recovery process.
