A natural gas project in Tennessee that would provide the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) with 245,000 Dth/d to replace a coal-fired power plant has been temporarily paused by an appeals court, which sided with environmental groups.

FERC last year issued a favorable final environmental impact statement for the Cumberland Project, clearing the way for approval by the Commission (No. CP22-493-000). Construction of the 32-mile, 30-inch diameter lateral by Kinder Morgan Inc. (KMI) subsidiary Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. LLC (TGP) began in late August.

Water crossing work for the project, built entirely in Tennessee, was imminent.
