UGI gas line replacement will result in road closures, delays in Lancaster city | Local News | lancasteronline.com

Road closures, detours and traffic delays are expected as a UGI Utilities natural gas main replacement project begins Thursday in eastern Lancaster city and runs through early December.

The project will install new gas lines along three streets near Reservoir Park, including:

Construction will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The underground gas main replacement project is not due to a specific problem in the area but is rather part of the natural gas and electric utility company’s ongoing effort to update older natural gas lines with newer materials, UGI spokesperson John Mason said.

UGI currently has several smaller projects updating gas lines in Lancaster city, including one along Columbia Avenue near Pearl Street that is expected to wrap up next week, Mason said.

Since service lines to individual homes will be replaced along with the main line, Mason said the project presents a convenient time for anyone who is interested in converting to natural gas to get a free hookup. For more information, call UGI at 800-276-2722.

Based in Denver, UGI has more than 740,000 customers, including 75,000 residential natural gas customers in Lancaster County.
