More gas pipe replacement works are to be carried out in Truro in the new year, a utility company says.

Wales and West Utilities said upgrades in the area of the city in Cornwall would continue from January in the Kenwyn St area.

The utility company also said it was upgrading current metal pipes to new "long-lasting plastic pipes".

It said that, "barring any engineering difficulties", work was expected to be finished by the beginning of May 2025.

In a statement, it said: "We appreciate that businesses will be concerned about the disruptions and required traffic management that will be in place while Wales and West undertake their work.

"Wales and West have started communicating to businesses that will be impacted."

The company added it was liaising with Cornwall Council to "plan the work and traffic management" which would be required.

Pipe upgrade manager Abby Smith said: "While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Truro.

"Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

"This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport [possible natural gas replacements] hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future."

A drop-in session about the planned works is due to be held on Tuesday at Truro Community Library between 10:00 BST and 16:00.
