Homeowner puts out fire with garden hose

A trash fire that had spread to a home was no match for a West Des Moines homeowner and his garden hose.

West Des Moines firefighters say they were called to a trash fire on Third Street near Valley Junction. The flames then spread to the home.

The quick-thinking homeowner grabbed his garden hose and started dousing the flames, an action firefighters say helped save the home.

The homeowner was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
