Prince William County Fire and Rescue (PWCFR) report the response to a gas leak in the 5900 block of Coby Hunt Court in Haymarket.

The initial report came in just past 4:15 the afternoon of October 14 and by approximately 5:35 units on the scene reported that the house had exploded.

The single-family dwelling at the location was destroyed.

Fire crews were able to safely evacuate the residents before the explosion.

The occupants consisted of 2 unrelated families including 4 adults 2 children shared the home.

The Red Cross is assisting the two families to recover from the incident.

No one was injured in the explosion.

The incident remains under investigation with preliminary indications showing that an underground natural gas line ruptured during a construction project.

The gas company was notified, and they reported to the scene to secure the leak.

Eight homes in the court are expected to be without natural gas for at least 2 days.

Residences were permitted to return to their homes once power was restored.

Several cars were damaged in the explosion by being struck by flying debris.

Once the explosion occurred and the gas main was cut off there was no further danger to the community.
