Contractor Cuts Natural Gas Line | JoCo Report

SMITHFIELD – A contractor accidentally severed an eight inch natural gas line Friday afternoon. It happened on South Fifth Street, between Rose and Holt Streets.

Several nearby homes were evacuated, while other residents were told to shelter in place, following the 4:30pm incident.

Piedmont Natural Gas representatives arrived on the scene and contained the leak.

The Smithfield Fire Department stood by until the scene was safe and residents could return to their homes.

No injuries were reported.
